Nurturing Our Students

St John’s fosters a caring community through pastoral care, peer support, restorative practices, and anti-bullying initiatives.

We empower our students to embrace a growth mindset, practice gratitude, show compassion, articulate emotions, develop positive relationships and advocate for their personal needs. This can be seen in the classrooms, in the playground and in our community.

To further enhance our commitment to nurturing the ‘whole child,’ St John’s Lutheran School has a dedicated Care Coordinator who plays an active role in all aspects of school life. Our Care Coordinator leads a network of Class Carers, working to strengthen connections between parents, students, and staff. This network provides valuable resources, such as parenting information, social skills development, and support for those experiencing grief and loss, as part of our broader Pastoral Care program.

Pastoral care

Pastoral care is central to the ethos of Lutheran education, actively supporting our mission and ministry. Under the guidance of Pastor Jacob, pastoral care is woven into the fabric of St John’s. It represents a caring partnership between the school community, the Eudunda-Robertstown Parish, and the wider community.

At St John’s, Pastoral Care is about walking with you along your path. Its focus is on emotional support and spiritual care, tending to basic wellbeing needs including personal, emotional and spiritual support and care.

We believe in learning from our mistakes and nurturing empathy, compassion, and concern for others. It’s about fostering a community rooted in love, forgiveness, and the building of close, caring relationships among students, teachers, and the broader community.

Behaviour management policy

We believe in guiding students to make positive choices by fostering self-discipline and accountability. Our approach encourages open communication and mutual respect, helping students understand the impact of their actions on others.

When challenges arise, we use restorative practices to resolve conflicts, aiming to repair relationships and build a strong, supportive community. Through clear expectations and consistent, compassionate guidance, we create a safe and respectful learning environment where every child can grow emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Restorative Practices

Restorative Practices at St John’s Lutheran School are an integral part of our whole-school approach to teaching and learning. This framework encourages supportive and respectful behaviour, placing the responsibility on individuals to be accountable for their actions and repair any harm caused. The focus is on building, maintaining, and restoring positive relationships, especially in situations involving conflict or wrongdoing.

By prioritising a restorative approach and providing ongoing staff training, we aim to reduce behaviour incidents and create a positive school culture. When the entire school community engages with Restorative Practices, it helps to decrease suspension rates, improve student behaviour, and foster a more harmonious and inclusive environment for all.
