Extra Curricular

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities in sports, arts, leadership, and community engagement to enrich students’ learning and personal growth.

Our diverse range of extra-curricular activities allows students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and connect with their peers and the wider community. These opportunities help foster personal growth, teamwork, leadership, and a sense of belonging.

Sports and physical education

We encourage active participation in a variety of sports, offering students the chance to represent our school in SAPSASA, Swimming Carnivals, Sports Days, and the Lutheran Sports Challenge.

Our Year 5-6 Sports Leaders help to initiate multi-age sports clubs and ensuring equipment is maintained. Through these activities, students build resilience, teamwork, and a healthy competitive spirit.

Arts and performance

Our vibrant arts program provides students with opportunities to express themselves creatively through music, dance, and drama. Students can join the choir, participate in the annual Year 3-6 Musical, and showcase their talents in community events like the Eudunda and Kapunda Shows. Visual arts also play an important role, with student work regularly featured in exhibitions like the “Heart and Soul of the Country” at the Burra Regional Art Gallery.

The St John’s Choir

The St John’s Choir offers a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their musical abilities while fostering teamwork and a sense of community. Our choir regularly performs at school events, local shows, and community gatherings such as the Eudunda Christmas Street Party and SALA Festival. These performances allow students to showcase their singing talents and build confidence on stage. Choir members not only learn vocal techniques and musicality, but they also gain experience in performing in front of an audience and collaborating with their peers. Through the choir, students experience the joy of music and create lasting memories while contributing to the school and wider community.

School camps

Camps at St John’s Lutheran School are an integral part of our extra-curricular program, offering students invaluable experiences outside the classroom. These camps are designed to build independence, resilience, and leadership skills, while also providing opportunities for students to deepen their friendships and develop their confidence in a supportive and fun environment.

As students progress through the year levels, they participate in more extended camp experiences that involve outdoor adventures, team-building activities, and hands-on learning. These camps often include hiking, bushwalking and environmental explorations that encourage students to engage with nature while fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Excursions

To complement in-class learning, students participate in enriching excursions that offer hands-on learning experiences. Whether it’s visiting local historical sites, museums, or science centres, these trips provide valuable opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and connect with the world beyond the classroom.

Celebrating special events

Special events such as Book Week, Premiers Reading Challenge, and the Colour Run are also highlights of the year, fostering school spirit and community engagement.

While events like Grandparents and Special Friends Day celebrate intergenerational connections. We also promote social awareness through initiatives like Harmony Day and Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) Awareness Day.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Our students have the opportunity to engage in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, where they learn positive food habits for life. Through hands-on gardening and cooking activities, students connect with fresh, healthy food and learn valuable life skills. With an emphasis on creativity, students often design their own recipes using garden produce, making the kitchen an extension of their classroom learning.
