Inclusive Education
Providing personalised learning pathways and supportive environments where every child can be the best versions of themselves.
Our commitment to inclusive education is founded on building positive relationships with each child and creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and belonging. We celebrate diversity and work to ensure that every student, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, has equal access to education and opportunities.
Our inclusive education team works closely with classroom teachers, parents, and allied health professionals to design personalised learning pathways that cater to the unique needs of each student.
This approach includes 1:1 support, small group interventions, and in-class targeted instruction, helping children reach their full potential. We use timely data and evidence-based practices to inform our teaching strategies and interventions, ensuring that every child receives the appropriate level of support.
Key aspects of our inclusive education program:
- Positive relationships: We build strong, respectful relationships with each child, understanding their strengths, challenges, and needs.
- Safe and flexible learning spaces: Every student feels welcomed and supported, with equal access to learning opportunities. We also recognise that movement and comfort are critical for some learners. To support this, we have introduced spindesks in classrooms, allowing children to stay active while they engage in their lessons.
- Embracing mistakes as learning opportunities: We nurture a culture where making mistakes is celebrated as part of the learning process.
- Tailored learning: Our learning opportunities focus on supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of each child, with foundational skills taught explicitly.
- Wellbeing Hub and allied health partnerships: Supporting the holistic development of each student is a priority at St John’s. Our Wellbeing Hub offers access to various Allied Health services, including Speech, Occupational, and Play Therapy. These services provide additional support for students who may benefit from specialised attention, ensuring that their social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
- Social and emotional development programs: Programs like Friendship Matters help students understand the importance of being a good friend, resolving conflicts, and practising forgiveness. These experiences contribute to a sense of community and belonging, reinforcing our commitment to fostering strong, supportive relationships.
- Wellbeing hub: Our dedicated sensory room provides a calm and supportive space for students who need sensory support, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable and ready to learn.
- Commitment to best practice: Our team are dedicated to continuous improvement. Our teachers and staff engage in ongoing professional development in differentiation and intervention strategies to ensure that every child’s learning experience is as effective and enriching as possible. By working together, we create a school environment where all children can learn, grow, and flourish.
